BOOK DESCRIPTION :
Ruthless poetry is the kind that tells the truth, the whole truth, everything and the truth. I did not strive to become ruthless. Ruthlessness found me, saw my nakedness, and said that it was good. It fell like a dragging, ill-fitting mantle, chips on shoulders and all, and I did not shake it off. I did not grow into it, and I do not know if I will outgrow it, but it is mine and that is a blessing.
I am drawn to the poetry of shouting, shouting from the heart, the naked heart, vulnerable and skittish, so difficult to speak to, let alone speak of. I rarely see it anymore in the poetry I read. The glimpses of flesh are not enough. These wounds are old and dressing them is a habit. Afraid of disinfecting sunlight, of the truth in the marrow of our bones and the rage beneath our tongues, we whisper.
To be ruthless is to embrace a voice forbidden, to put the beauty of all emotion before sterile originality. I am finished with the tangles of manicured lines. I am finished with fear. Do not read this book in a whisper. This book is a shout.
