I was diagnosed with breast cancer over thirty years ago .I couldn’t imagine ever reaching old age. My journey like hundreds of women has been traumatising at times. However, with the right treatment and the will to survive life goes on. Emotions run deep and acceptance is a way of dealing with something you can’t change.
Working as a nurse for many years I developed a passion for understanding all aspects of breast cancer and the care provided.
I spent hours searching for answers and trying to learn about the complexity of the disease. Working in primary care gave me the opportunity to educate women regarding being breast aware. Using breast models to show them how to examine themself. Breast care was beginning to take shape and prevention and early detection was helping to save lives.
The mind and body begin the healing process. This doesn’t happen overnight; these small steps give hope to those who feel alone and in fear of the unknown.
