I have spent years teaching atypical learners and those at-risk, and Susan W. Owens’s approach is one of the most effective methods I have encountered for fostering a calm, respectful classroom. What makes this book so powerful is that it recognizes children need time, patience, and visual guidance to succeed—especially those who might not be ready for the intense pressures of modern academic curricula. The puppet provides a stable, predictable presence that is especially helpful for children with emotional regulation challenges or autism, offering them a clear, non-confrontational way to self-correct. Implementing this program allowed me to stop focusing on crisis management and start focusing on character development. The book provides clear instructions for teachers, including how to introduce the doll and how to integrate the character-building raps throughout the day. If you are looking for a way to save your energy and build a more harmonious classroom, I cannot recommend this resource enough. It is a heartfelt, practical guide for changing lives.
